Poll: Remove post counts?

Who cares, really? If someone's going spam the forum to increase their count, ban them for being a dipshit. It's not an internet popularity rating, it's a post count.

Also, like Kuro said, most of the people who announce their high posts are doing it in a joking way. Mine's not so much a "Haha, look at how much I post!" mentality, rather a "Oh my god, why am I on this forum so much, lol" mentality.

I don't think anyone takes the amount of posts they make seriously.

They make php mods to manually adjust post counts. So you could knock someone to -2000 or 65535 or whatever.

I'm all for removing them. There is no reason to keep your count.

How about a bandwidth meter instead showing how much bandwidth you use and how much each post you make costs the forum Tongue

I saw some other cool meters on another forum ive used that have like HP and Mana or something ill post a pic later...

HP = Full if innocent, Half if warned, None if banned?
Mana = Full if online, 75% if offline, 50% if offline for a few days, 25% if offline for a month, 0% if inactive for a year?

no idea... but theres a snapshot in my last post now. Ive been inactive for like 2 years on those forums so those are what my stats look like.

I don't care either way. I don't really notice the numbers most of the time. I noticed them more when I first started to see who all was on the most and how active they were in the forums to get to know them but other than that it really hasn't been an issue for me. If y'all figure out a way to get rid of them and decide to then I certainly won't be upset to see them go.

If you guys can't remove post counts at the moment at least discount the garbage pod like others have suggested and move the music and you of the now or any other silly threads that get lots of posts to the garbage pod as well.

I don't see how garbage pod post discounting will really help. Most of the people who have high post counts have them because they post a lot in all the forums. So the people on top would still be on top, I'd think.

It'd be interesting to test this theory, though.

blocking specific areas of the forum from counting toward post count is more difficult than blocking post counts altogether.

we will be switching to another platform very soon. when we move over, we'll see what we can do. right now i don't have the time to learn how to implement another phpbb mod. for someone who doesn't know php, it's pretty difficult. it took a lot of time for me to learn how to get our themes up and running, edit them to include our logo, etc.

I don't think TFS will ever become a dump. With so many new members it won't feel like the small community it used to be, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing! =3

I haven't really seen spamming in my opinion. If some folks posted less, it would damage the conversational nature of the forum.

That said: I think hiding the post count from the avatar section of each post would be harmless. I don't think it really needs to show up next to every single post.

If folks wanted to brag or compare their post counts, they could just look at their profile pages or the memberlist.

Just offering a 'middle option' between totally disabling post counts and leaving them be.

I personally think they're kinda fun.
